you've probably tried to learn an instrument before.
maybe guitar. maybe piano. maybe something else.
and you quit. we all do. life gets busy. progress feels slow. you tell yourself you'll get back to it.
you don't.
I did the same thing 6 years ago. picked up a guitar. didn't get far. gave up.
but here's what I didn't understand then:
the gap is smaller than you think.
you don't need to be good. you don't need years of practice. you don't need to read music.
you need 3-4 chords and one recognizable song.
that's it. that's the difference between "I'm learning guitar" and "let me play you something."
I learned 3 songs in 7 days:
let it be - the beatles
house of the rising sun - the animals
stand by me - ben king
my fingers hurt every day. I still can't read music. but I can walk into a room and make people smile now.
you can too. faster than you think.
Now here are 3 unusual lessons from my notes for this week:
lesson 1: one recognizable song beats months of practice.
nobody cares if you know scales. nobody cares about your chord transitions.
but play something they recognize? something they can sing along to?
now you've connected.
I was in the office kitchen playing "stand by me." someone walked in. stopped. started singing.
then another person joined. then another.
3 people in a kitchen on a Wednesday morning, singing together.
that's not because I'm talented. it's because the song is eternal and I knew 4 chords.
you could do this. in a week.
lesson 2: bad music beats no music.
you're waiting until you're good enough. you're not going to be good enough for a long time. none of us are.
but people don't care about good.
I played "let it be" terribly at a restaurant. the waitresses gave me a free omelette because I brought "positive energy" into the room 🙂 (I posted the video proof on Friday)
I was bad. they loved it anyway.
your friends, your family, your coworkers don't need a concert. they need someone who tried. someone who brought music to make the day a bit more beautiful.
be bad. make people smile anyway.
lesson 3: this is what you're working for.
you have goals. money. career. fitness. whatever.
but why?
the end goal is connection. joy. moments with people you love.
music is one of the fastest paths there. and you're ignoring it because you think you need talent.
you don't. you need 10 hours and 3-4 chords.
I figured this out at 31. in Italian we say "meglio tardi che mai."
better late than never.
but you could figure it out this week.
here's the challenge for everyone:
pick up an instrument. anything. guitar, ukulele, keyboard, whatever you have access to.
learn one song. just one. something people know.
play it badly for someone you care about.
tell me how it goes. I want to hear.
this next week: launch one product in 7 days.
switching focus, because I like to have variety in these challenges.
We go from taking care of our body and becoming stronger to being more creative, connecting with others, but also making a good income and learning business skills.
I'm going to build a small online business and launch 1 product by Sunday. digital or physical.
want to join? reply and tell me what you'd launch if you had 1 week.
