I'm about to get rejected 96 times this week.
I’m currently in Austin, Texas and I had an idea to help us grow.
I'm about to cold call 100 strangers in the United States and try to sell them something.
week 15 of 53skills.
the skill is cold calling.
BECAUSE I think if you can call 100 strangers, and offer something useful to them, you will be successful in life.
Do you agree?
now here's the math that feels awful:
the average cold call success rate is 4.8%. that means out of 100 calls, roughly 95 people will say no. hang up. ignore me. tell me to never call again.
and I chose to do this on purpose.
I have a little AI consulting business.
what I don't have is the ability to pick up a phone and sell.
so that's what this week is about.
100 calls. 7 days. a US phone number I set up today.
a script I will practice 20 times in the mirror. and the same approach I've used for every skill so far: show up, be bad, get better, document everything.
I'll share the real numbers on Sunday. every rejection. every win. every moment where I wanted to quit and kept dialing.
Now a quick useful guide for you:
Define the ideal customer persona in one sentence.
OpenPhone or Aircall give you a real US local number
Send cold email first
Script: “Hey [name], this is Alex, this is a cold call, can I have 27 seconds and then you can hang up on me?”
Voicemail script. 70-80% go to voice mail. Need a 15-second script that mentions you'll follow up by email, then actually do it.
Email follow-up sequence. A call without same-day email is wasted.
get Calendly link ready, half the value of a good call is destroyed if you can't book the meeting on the spot.
Call recording laws. Texas is a one-party consent state, so I can record without telling the prospect.
Send a short email the morning of your call so when you say "I just sent you an email," it's true. Turns a cold call semi-warm.
Smiling before you dial.
Let’s gooo!
Daily progress, keep practicing:
